Keough Internship Programme

The Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies annually awards Keough Internships which place Notre Dame rising seniors in positions in Dublin, Ireland relating to politics, commerce, culture and society. The Internships last for a period of seven weeks each summer during which time the students are under the guidance of an Internship Coordinator in the Keough Naughton Notre Dame Centre, Dublin; the successful candidates receive a) a round-trip airfare from the United States to Ireland; b) accommodation, and c) a living allowance for the duration of their stay.
In Summer 2011 Annie Cassel spent her summer working with the Marketing and PR department at Ireland’s National Theatre, the Abbey Theatre. Anne Whitty was based with the Environmental Protection Agency researching Ireland’s environmental laws and regulations. Kari Johnson worked with Olympic Council of Ireland. Hillary Kelly interned as Press Liason for the Press Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs. Kelly Fallon worked in the Education Department at the National Gallery of Ireland and Tyler Harmsen worked with a poverty charity in Dublin researching and urban poverty in Dublin and poverty reduction strategies.

Application Procedure
Applications for a Keough internship will be enthusiastically accepted from any ND rising senior, regardless of college. Apply today! The application deadline is January 18, 2012. To apply, you must submit the following to the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies:
1. A copy of your resumé.
2. A statement of purpose of no more than two pages, elaborating how an internship in Ireland would advance your career. It would be a good idea to detail relevant coursework or experience and attributes that would help you to meet the challenge of an internship abroad. You should specify the general area in which would are interested in working. For example, if you are interested in film studies, you might explain how interning at the Irish Film Institute would further both your academic and professional development.
3. Signed, sealed letter of recommendation from a Notre Dame faculty member.
4. Official copy of your transcript sealed from the Registrar.
