Seventeen graduates receive national fellowships and scholarships

The University of Notre Dame recently announced that 17 members of the class of 2011 received scholarships or fellowships. Included in that announcements were two Dublin Programme Alumnae who have been recognised with nationally competitive fellowships to pursue graduate studies in their chosen area. Kristen Drahos, a 2009 ND grad in Philosophy and Theology and Fall 2007 Dublin participant, received a Lilly Graduate Fellowship to continue her studies. Kristen is receiving her Masters of Theological Studies from Notre Dame and will continue to a Ph.D. in Theology. Claire Brown, a 2011 ND grad in anthropology and Spring 2010 Dublin participant, received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. She will continue her studies by pursuing a Masters in Anthropology. Read More

The International Summer School on John McGahern combines the annual International Seminar on John McGahern (July 21 – 23) with a subsequent week (July 24 – 30) of intensive classes and workshops on McGahern’s work and related areas in creative writing. Each Semester the Keough Naughton Centre staff collectively choose the person that we believe best embodies the spirit of our programme. We call the award ‘An Tine Beo’: ‘Tine Beo’ means the living fire and the concept is based on an aphorism of the poet William Butler Yeats: ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’. The staff is faced with the difficult challenge of selecting one student from the entire group, choosing from a field of the brightest and the best that Notre Dame has to offer. Read More
