Mike Rodio, a Notre Dame JYA student studying at Trinity College Dublin (2010/11) has been studying at the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Anthony Byrne for the past year. As part of his time at RIAM, Mike entered into a concerto competition this past week at the academy, performing Gershwin’s Concerto No. 1 in F.
Performing alongside his tutor and in front of a very large and supportive contingent of his Notre Dame classmates, Mike delivered a vibrant musically and technically accomplished performance, and succeeded in winning the Piano Plus Cup. Many previous winners have gone on to stellar careers. This is a wonderful accomplishment, and we at the ND Dublin Centre are glad that he had the opportunity to succeed in his studies here. He puts in many hours of hard work both at RIAM and on the O’Connell House piano, he is very committed to his music, and we feel that he is really benefitting from his time here.
